Biopsy

Oral tissue biopsy may be necessary for lesions that cannot be diagnosed on the basis of the history and clinical findings alone. Approximately 10% of patients who are examined will have some abnormality of the oral mucosa. When additional information is requred to guide any indicated therapy, biopsy to provide tissue for microscopic analysis is often the definitive procedure.
